On Monday, July 9th, the Marty Lyons Foundation held its 33rd Annual Celebrity Golf Classic at the Old Westbury Golf and Country Club. This year’s Man of the Year was Board Member and Chief Medical Advisor of the Foundation – Dr. Ernest Vomero.
It was a great day to raise funds for our mission. With perfect weather, 220 golfers, 20 celebrities and special guests of honor – The Craig Family and the Karlson Family – the day could not have been any better.
Before teeing off, participants started their day meeting local wish child, Elliot Karlson and his family. The on course activities included, Kyle’s challenge (formerly Beat the Kid who’s all grown up now), Beat the Pro; with Tom Herzog, and three hole in one challenges (courtesy of Mike Brown of Atlantic Motors). Of course the day would not be complete without the presence of the Jets Flight Crew to cheer on the golfers.
There was no shortage of food or drinks either. Wine tastings and mixed drinks were provided by return supporters, 3 G’s Vino and the Georgi Girls. Not only did golfers enjoy delicious meals on the course provided by Old Westbury, but had a tasty treat with Long Island’s most enjoyable meatballs compliments of Farmingdale’s That Meetball Place. Clare Rose graciously provided refreshing beer to our guests.
After a very appetizing cocktail hour, which included the entertaining DJ Chef, the evening program commenced and was full of delightful – amazing moments which included many special guests. David Weiss, Master of Ceremonies, kicked off the evening program with humor. The night continued with special guest speaker Michael Craig who shared a heart-warming message with attendees.
Awards presented were:
- Keith Muglia Man of the Year Award – Dr. Ernest Vomero
- Stan Pohl Award – Greg Wagner
- Leon Hess Award – Mike Francesa and Murray Legg
- Colleen Walsh Award – Mary Peterson and Don Raad
A special thanks to our photographers, Hillary Garza, Gary Hahn and James, the Bossman, Schaeling for donating their time to capture the beautiful memories of the day.
As the Foundation moves through its 36th year, Marty was moved to see room filled with old and new faces.
Thank you to all who attended and for those who could not attend but supported the event.
Save the Date – Monday July 8, 2019 as we honor John Nitti as the Man of the Year
